MOZART CELEBRATIONS IN PRAVETS

The “Mozart Celebrations” in Pravets started in 2003. The idea belongs to the born in Pravets opera singer Snezhinka Avramova - mezzo soprano, who is living and building her successful singing career mainly in Germany.  The Mozart Celebrations are held on the stage of the community center “Zarya 1895”.

On 29 August 2003 – the premiere of Mozart's opera “Cosi fan tutte”. Director and producer, set design and costumes – Snezhinka Avramova, conducted by the eminent Bulgarian conductor Pavel Balev. Young opera singers made their successful debut – Simeon Pilibosyan, Aleksander Ternyanov, Elena Barumova, Anton Dinev, Nikolay Bachev, Olga Dinova, Evgeniya Angelova, Ventsislav Dinov, Anna Karadimitrova and Marieta Lazarova.

By Decision № 81/12.10.2004, the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Pravets accepted to participate as one of the founders of the Ass. “Mozart Celebrations – Pravets '04”.

2005 - Second edition of the Mozart Celebrations. The world famous violin duo Dina Schneiderman and Emil Kamilarov took part in the programme of the festival with their concerts, as well as the piano duo “Kayshige” from Japan and Women's Chamber String Orchestra “Gega-New” conducted by Georges Dimitrov.

In 2006-2011 - „Mozart Celebrations” offered their audience a variety of musical events for children and adults. Chamber concerts were conducted, as well as master classes, special themed activities for children, the performances of young talents and gifted artists were supported, world-renowned artists took part in the events. The unique for Bulgaria initiative – “Fortissimo in class – guest of the children of Pravets” was transferred for the first time outside of Sofia with the support of the “America for Bulgaria” foundation.

2012 – „Mozart Celebrations” were held for the first time on a specially built outdoor stage on the lake in front of the hotel “Riu Pravets Resort”. The Festival had a new format that attracted the attention of viewers from all over Bulgaria and abroad with its programme, brilliant soloists and high artistic productions. The festival was officially opened with the performance of the Bourgas State opera of the opera “The Marriage of Figaro”, the second evening was devoted to ballet featuring Ballet “Arabesque” in the spectacle “Don Giovanni”, followed by the gala concert “W.A. Mozart – Classics and Jazz” at the square in Pravets. The final chord was made with the attractive music concert “Music, Dance, History and Fashion”.

2013 – The festival has established itself as the most anticipated event in the summer cultural calendar of Bulgaria. „Mozart Celebrations” in Pravets /15-18 August/ started with the performance of the opera “Aida” - co-production with the Rousse State Opera. The spectacular performance of Verdi's emblematic title gathered Bulgarian and foreign artists from the world opera poster, more than 200 participants took part in the spectacular mega production. Conductor - Giovanni Di Stefano from Italy. The Classical Concert with selected symphonic works charmed the fans of instrumental music with the participation of Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra. Soloist Victor Goldberg /piano/ from the USA, conductor Rossen Gergov.  The ballet programme offered a unique dance performance by the Ballet del Sud from Italy “Mozart – the Prodigy of Europe”. The traditional gala concert at the square in Pravets “W.A. Mozart - Classics, Rock and Jazz” offered an attractive programme of overtures, arias, duets, choruses, musical fragments and jazz and rock variations on the works of Mozart, Verdi, Wagner. The concert was attended by a constellation of opera singers, world-renowned musicians, the jazz diva Yildiz Ibrahimova, the rock band “Kikimora” with Nicolo Kotzev, the orchestra and choir of the Rousse National Opera. The Programme for children and adults presented outdoor the opera for children “Bastien and Bastien” by Mozart with the Chamber Orchestra of the Rousse State Opera under the baton of Georgi Patrikov, a program of live performances, games, dancing and quizzes, hosted by Maria Sylvester.

The poster of the festival over the years included the names of the talented opera singers Diana Vassileva, Edelina Kuneva, Russalina Mochukova, Aleksander Nosikov, Aleksander Krunev, Svetozar Rangelov, Rossitsa Pavlova-Indjeva, Daniela Karaivanova, Tsvetana Bandalovska, Daniel Ostretsov, Dilyara Bastar /Turkey/, Ilina Michaylova, Ivaylo Djurov, Radostina Nikolaeva, Bisser Georgiev, Nikolay Motsov, Lina Peeva, Diman Panchev, Besa Llugiqi /Kosovo/, Plamen Beykov, internationally recognized opera stars Kaludi Kaludov, Zvetelina Vassileva, Anna Maria-Chiuri /Italy/, Mario Chang /Canada/, Deyan Vachkov, Gabriela Georgieva, Daniela Dyakova, violin virtuoso Vesko Panteleev Eshkenazy, the pianist Victor Goldberg /USA/.

2014 - Jubilee Tenth Edition of the Festival will be held from 13 to 17 August on three stages – the stage on the lake, “Zarya 1895” Community Center and in the square in front of the Municipality of Pravets. The official opening took place on 13 August on the open-air stage in front of the Riu Pravets Resort Hotel, presenting the production of the Ruse State Opera of the opera Don Giovanni by Mozart. The second evening offered symphonic-music admirers an unforgettable encounter under the stars with works by Mozart, Rimsky-Korsakov and Richard Strauss with the special participation of opera prima Tsvetelina Vasileva and the elite Sofia Festival Orchestra, which had made people applaud it standing in different parts of the world. Conductor Vladimir Kiradzhiev.

Two premieres were held for the first time in the “Mozart Celebrations” – music-and-theater spectacle Mozart and Salieri  - jointly with the Ruse Opera, whose premiere was on 15 August,  and the premiere of the ballet spectacle AUS  ITALIEN-SALOME-ROSENKAVALIER to music by Richard Strauss, presented by Compagnia Nazionale del Balletto from Rome, Italy. The Festival’s finale was the traditional gala concert “Classical music, Rock and Dance” in the square on 17 August.

A special guest to the Festival was Italian opera prima Bruna Baglioni, who conducted a masterclass for young opera singers in Pravets from 10 to 17 August. It finished with a concert given by its participants. Bruna Baglioni’s admirers met closely with her art at the traditional “A meeting with an Autograph” on 14 August.

The musical Jekyll to music by John Moore – this was this year’s organizers’ choice for the youngest spectators. It was presented by the Children’s Opera of Varna, accompanied by the orchestra of the Ruse State Opera. Conductor Gancho Ganchev.

“Mozart Celebrations”, in partnership with the National Art Gallery – Sofia, marked the 450 years of the death of Michelangelo with a rich program, illustrating the life and the different known and unknown faces of the genius, who has been the inspiration of many great composers, writers, directors and artists.

The musical accompaniment is in the hands of the Rousse State Opera Оrchestra, Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, State Opera Orchestra – Rousse, Chamber Orchestra “Studio Primo”, the prestigious capital orchestra “Sofia Soloists”, “Festival Women's Chamber Orchestra”, jazz ensemble “Michael Yosifov Sextet”,  percussion ensemble “Accent” of the Pleven School of Music, “Nicola Sala sax quartet” /Italy/, the pianist Milen Stanev.

Orchestrated by George Dimitrov, Luciano di Martino /Italy/, Georgi Patrikov, Maxim Eshkenazy, Rossen Gergov, Ivan Angelov, Giovanni Di Stefano /Italy/. The following guest actors took part in the festival:  Daniel Tsochev, Rouslan Muynov, Antoaneta Dobreva – Neti, Yuliyan Vergov, Silvia Loulcheva, Marius Donkin, Maria Silvester; the pop singers  Dani Milev and Miro, jazz singers Yildiz Ibrahimova and Militsa Gladnishka, Rafi, the rock band “Kikimora” with Nikolo Kotsev.
